As a relatively new business owner I struggle through learning many tasks in order to run an efficient and thriving business. I love all the new things I am learning and it is tempting to want to do all the cool stuff myself. The result of this is that I am dealing with my own micromanaging issues more then ever. I feel frustrated that I can
‘t relax more and let others do their job. I am impatient by nature with everything. I now find myself wishing that I could take a step back
and let others just do their job without my interfering. I would imagine that micromanaging is a common issue amongst women who feel the need to control their lives and family in a bid to be a better wife, worker, mother, friend … whatever. The problem I am dealing with most is that I am a perfectionist. I want everything just so and I am extremely concerned that everything get done right. I feel a lot of
pressure. I worry what people think and analyze things to death. Being "busy" is a badge that I have loved to wear in the past but now I am questioning my productivity.
I am a person who wishes to improve myself. It is extremely important to me to learn from my mistakes, my anxieties and understand why I choose the goals I do. I am as they say -evolving. One of the reasons I became an entrepreneur was to achieve freedom to explore my passions and move beyond the levels I have reached in the traditional workforce.I felt I had hit a wall. Things are certainly now on the upswing but I still struggle.
Signs you are Micro-Manager:
- Resist delegating;
- Immerse themselves in overseeing the projects of others;
- Start by correcting tiny details instead of looking at the big picture;
- Take back delegated work before it is finished if they find a mistake in it; and
- Discourage others from making decisions without consulting them.
How can you Improve your Micro Managing Ways
- Be honest with yourself and how important the job is to be done by you. Choose wisely.
- Ask for feedback on how you are to work with.
- Practice listening, not thinking what you are going to do or say next.
- Get to know your employees – and invest in them personally.
Please share with others how you weigh in on micro-managing and leave a comment. I promise not to correct it.
