Marketing the Awful
Ick, yuck, that dirty word marketing! How could I even conceive of marrying it with the concept of adoring? You adore puppies, babies and sunsets. You certainly don’t adore your marketing, right? Well if that’s the case for you, then listen up (read up).
Just like anything in life, if you don’t love it, you won’t be good at it and you certainly won’t want to do it often..am I right?
I mean think about karaoke for God’s sake! (Unless you’re related to Celine that is…)
What do you adore?
When you want the world to go away and leave you in peace, what do you naturally gravitate to? Is it talking to your friends, is it scuba diving, is it watching reruns of the Oprah Show or is it watching the YouTube channel for Robert Pattinson interviews (guilty). For example, a client loves to read and write. Another loves to network and talk to people. I love to public speak. Some love all 3 but when we adore something we want to do it that much more often.
Plan to add more adore time
If, say you love to write, what could your marketing plan look like so that you can attract more clients to your business? How could you put a heavier emphasis on writing in the whole marketing mix?
What immediately comes to mind is how well you’ll write your web copy and how catchy your social media profiles will be. A newsletter and a blog are probably painless and pleasurable no-brainers for you. Writing responses to LinkedIn Group discussion threads is also no problem. Writing and posting articles for trade and association publications is actually fun for you. What are you waiting for then—there’s your marketing plan.
What’s that got to do with biz?
What about if you adore your baby (that would be moi) and want to attract new clients for a completely unrelated service? You can use stories and pictures of your baby to form a big part of your brand character (figure yours out here). You can choose to target women who also adore their baby and hold seminars which provide babysitting on premise for them etc. There are so many creative ways to make what you adore a big part of your marketing plan! Now get excited, get adoring and get planning to get new clients.
